Dade County and the mountains around Chattanooga are famous for bluegrass, outdoor recreation, and Civil War sites. Hundreds of thousands of people have come here for rafting, rock climbing, caving, golfing, hiking, camping – and, of course – hang gliding Dade County is the hang gliding capital of the world. The hugely popular Cloudland Canyon State Park is right here; five other state parks, national forests and wildlife refuges are within a forty-five minute drive, and thousands of acres along the Tennessee River are protected from development.
Dade County owns the “Four Fields” sports complex near Trenton that is open to the community and hosts recreational leagues for all ages. For sports fans, nearby Chattanooga has the Lookouts (baseball), the Chattanooga Football Club and the Red Wolves (soccer). College and high school sports are endlessly varied and popular.
